Real Salt Lake Seal Deal for Nigerian Forward Victor Olatunji

Major League Soccer side Real Salt Lake (RSL) have completed the signing of Victor Olatunji from Sparta Prague for a reported $2.5 million.

The 25 year old Nigerian forward has penned a contract running until June 2028, with club-held options extending through the end of 2029. RSL secured his discovery rights from D.C. United in exchange for $125,000 in General Allocation Money in 2026.

Olatunji arrives in Utah with a proven track record having tallied 42 goals and 11 assists in 192 appearances across European leagues, including Austria, Cyprus, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

"We’ve been working on this move for some time," said RSL’s chief soccer officer, Kurt Schmid, adding that Olatunji’s box intelligence, speed and physical presence fit perfectly with their attack.

Editorial

Olatunji’s arrival at RSL signals more than just a new signing it reflects vision. Beyond goals, his blend of pace, strength, and technical nous speaks to a player ready to assume a central role in an evolving squad.

RSL’s recruitment has been strategic: adding incisive attackers like Olatunji complements existing assets, like Nigerian compatriot William Agada. This alignment suggests not just planning but a clear identity: robust attack supported by intelligent forward play.

Olatunji’s European pedigree especially his influential Champions League appearances adds gravitas. It’s not often a club from Utah secures a player with that record. Now, the expectation is immediate performance, not potential.

Ultimately, this signing could define RSL’s late-season run. If Olatunji adapts swiftly, he may become the catalyst for playoff ascendancy. For Nigerian football, it’s another forward making his mark in MLS starting with intent and purpose.
