Samuel Kalu Named NPFL Player of the Week for Goal with Plateau United

Plateau United striker Samuel Kalu has been crowned NPFL Player of the Week Matchday 31 after scoring a dramatic late winner to secure a vital away victory over defending champions Enugu Rangers.

Not to be confused with the former Super Eagles winger of the same name, the 22 year old forward has shown impressive form of late. His decisive goal was the product of slick team play, as he calmly slotted home a low cutback to silence the Rangers' home crowd.

This was Kalu’s second goal of the season his first came last month in a 1-1 away draw against Niger Tornadoes, where he scored with a powerful header.

After a difficult stint at Enyimba, Kalu appears to have rediscovered his confidence at Plateau United. His performance helped propel the Peace Boys five places clear of the relegation zone, now sitting 11th on the table with 41 points from 31 games.

The Jos-based side has now gone four matches unbeaten, and Kalu’s timely resurgence could be a turning point in their season.

Editorial

Samuel Kalu’s rise from the shadows is a reminder of football’s most powerful truth: redemption is always one goal away. His late strike against Rangers wasn’t just a goal it was a message to those who doubted his talent after a quiet spell at Enyimba.

It takes more than raw skill to deliver in high-stakes moments. It takes composure, belief, and a touch of bravery. Kalu showed all three in that final act against the champions. In a season where every point could mean survival or despair, his contribution was worth far more than its weight in statistics.

But credit must also go to Plateau United. Their unbeaten run is no accident. There's a renewed structure, spirit, and urgency in their play. Players like Kalu are thriving in this atmosphere, and the results are finally reflecting their efforts.
