Liverpool's Fola Onanuga Nominated for Goal of the Month

Fola Onanuga, a promising Nigerian midfielder at Liverpool, has been nominated for the club's prestigious Goal of the Month award for April 2024. His nomination comes following an exceptional goal scored against Newcastle United in an Under 18 Premier League match on April 16.

The 17 year old, who has been a regular feature for Liverpool's U18 team this season, showcased his skill with a stunning strike from outside the penalty box. Taking control of the ball, Onanuga shifted it to his left foot and launched a powerful shot that sailed past the Newcastle goalkeeper in the fifteenth minute.

Onanuga faces tough competition for the award, contending against senior team players such as Alexis Mac Allister, Trent Alexander Arnold, and Ryan Gravenberch, as well as fellow youth team members Kaide Gordon, Jayden Danns, Ranel Young, and Kieran Morrison. Additionally, women's team midfielder Marie Höbinger is also among the nominees.

Having started in eleven of the twenty-three games he has played this season across various competitions, including the FA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy, and U18 Premier League Cup, Onanuga has made significant contributions to his team. His nomination for this award underscores his development and impact at Liverpool since signing his first professional contract in November 2023.
